St. Louis in July
You can probably tell that our July trip was our big trip of 2007. We visited the "Gateway to the West", the St. Louis arch. We toured the arch, the Lewis & Clark museum, and the surrounding sites. We had our first trip on a paddle-wheel steamer. Then we left Missouri on our way to Kentucky.

Vicksburg - still in July
We visited Vicksburg, the site of one of the great Civil War battles. We viewed the battlefield and monuments while reading about the historical battles. We saw a partially restored Civil War battleship. We also visited their museum of Civil War artifacts.
We stayed in a Bed and Breakfast that was built in 1849, and we saw several plantation homes as well as many other historical buildings that date back to Civil War times.

Patty and I took a weekend vacation late in June. We visited the Mission "San Luis Rey" in Oceanside. We also walked through a nature reserve, noticing local plants and wildlife. We returned by way of Julian. The destruction from its last forest fire was still evedent.
